If you are relatively new to forums, in general, the "Help" button near the top left of the screen is truly pretty helpful. I just realized that today (2-5-2009), but if you go to "Help" and click "Posting" from there it will clearly explain what the icons do in the comment posting area. Neat!
Added Forum Guidelines #7 on 11-20-08!
What is aighead.com?aighead.com started off as a
free personal website, written by yours truly, to do nothing but waste my time and write about funny things I've seen or interesting thoughts I've had... And in the 11 or so years that my thoughts have been running around on the internet I estimate about 6 people have read any part of the site. Now, aighead.com has progressed into site that I actually paid for that does nothing but waste my time and I estimate that the 6 people who had previously read any part of the site have been run off due to boredom. To sum up, it's just a journal for me to write stuff in or a place to put pictures that I find interesting.
Where is the content? What? I thought you were taking care of that part. Honestly, there is a ton of content to be transferred over from my old webspace. I have a full time job, my wife and I are basically single parents (due to our working arrangements) and we have 2 kids. That leads to me not having a ton of time, at least currently, to devote to transferring that content over, or producing new. I do add stuff, but it's slow going. Thus, I continue to thank you, the patient reader.
Why does aighead.com look all weird?I have no idea what I'm doing. I thought I had things good but upon re-looking, I've found several things that are wrong, you'll have to forgive me for now. It'll get better, maybe.
What are the guidelines of the forum? As stated elsewhere:
1. Be Kind, Rewind. I don't really know what that means, but heed it's warning.
2. I don't really care about cussing here but keep in mind that a variety of anyone could be reading this stuff. See the
aighead.com disclaimer for more info there. I'd prefer people to stay civil, and I'd prefer to not have to remove anyone's ability to use these forums, but some people get stupid, so, uh... don't. Maybe try to be thread specifically appropriate with your harsh language.
3. Treat people like you want treated yourself, unless you're all S&M and stuff, then nevermind, freak.
4. Take a joke.
5. Keep discussions mostly on topic. I'm already seeing things go everywhere, mainly because I wasn't fast enough to start topic areas, but I can tell it may be difficult to manage any content that might show up here and organization is not my strong suit.
6. Let me know if there is any trouble, I'll try to help.
7. Please don't spam these forums. I don't mind the occasional link to something you want to plug but we've already seen a rash of spammers adding less than desirable content and threads to the forum (think necrophilia and cadillacs, then stop thinking it). Not that anyone who would spam the forums would actually read and try to follow these rules, but I thought I'd toss it up here anyway. I don't mind seeing regular users post the crap out of things they either like or are involved with, but I don't like the random user, straight-up spam. Now, due to me trying to curb the spamming issue I'm adding the unfortunate confirmation email to the deal. You should receive an email, I think, from "My Community" or maybe aighead.com forums that you'll have to reply to. Sorry.
That's it for now. If this site grows, as unnexpected, I'll likely add some more.
This site is boring. That's not, in the least, a question. I've attempted to make things a little funny, but my humor is likely hit or miss, with an emphasis on the miss. Basically, you have to dig around a bit to find good stuff.
Anything I can do to help?Yes! Participate in the forums. Stay patient on the main site. Let me know if things are goofy so I can at least acknowledge them. Tell your friends!
Why the name aighead.com?Well, my head is shaped like an egg, but maybe not as much as when I was little, and back in the day some family friends called me Egghead. My initials are AIG (no affiliation with the insurance company) so it works out, assuming you pronounce it properly.
How do I use the link feature of forums?I don't know if other parts of the forum formatting features have this issue too, but I've seen it in other forums that aren't run by me, so it's no surprise... If you hover your mouse over the various buttons above the text entering window (when you go to start a new topic or reply to another post), you can see what they do. The one that looks like earth is the link button and all you have to do is type the words you want linked, highlight them, click the link button and after the first "[url" that shows up before your previously highlighted text type an "=" sign then enter the website being linked to after the equals sign it should look like
["url=http://aighead.com"]highlighted text
["/url"] but
remove any of the quotation marks unless they are in your highlighted text area. If that isn't making sense let me know and I'll try to explain it better.
Why the hell are there so many forum topics?Ha! 'Cause I have loads of ideas but no follow through! Uh, you can make things appear a bit more managable by using the little minimize button on the corner of all the forum topics shown below, it will minimize each topic and only show the ones you want to see. It's easy to forget that the other ones are there so beware.
Are there any questions I'm missing? Reply here and I'll add them to the list, assuming I know the answer.
